In addition to staying put more reliably, these are narrower overall compared to T-Nuts. Web14 jul. 2010 · T-nut draw down is done by inserting the thing from the opposite side. Today I was experimenting with a threaded insert. It has thread outside and inside to match my bolts. So they screw in. I put these in the opposite side as well but it appears that they are drawing through the leaf as it is tightened.

WebThreaded inserts are a great way to be able to secure something to a wood base. The problem is, the manufacturer specifically states that installing these inserts in to plywood is not recommended. Since plywood is layers of thin wood glued together, it does not have the same strength as solid wood. But if you have a plywood base, what can you do? When I want to be extra sure it does not split the wood or bulge it out, I drill an oversized hole and use the epoxy to hold the insert. I have used #8 threaded inserts up to 3/8 inch and they all work. I've put them in particle board, MDF, oak, and pine.
Web8 mei 2024 · In MDF, I go a bit bigger than the recommended size and use epoxy to make up for the shallowness of the threads. When putting them into edges (rather than faces), I was getting split out. I started using a C clamp on the face "squeezing" the hole a bit while I screwed in the insert and the problem was solved. Web5 apr. 2015 · I used 1/4-20 Ez Lock inserts into a main table surface of Baltic Birch. IT was only $60 for a 60x60inch peice of baltic birch from a local supplier. I would not use those Ezlok inserts in MDF, I think it would be too easy to strip them out. They're very coarse screws for the fans, and the case-holes are wider & have no threads. Otherwise, I'd recommend T-nuts. They allow you get some threads in the MDF. You could also look at hurricane nuts, same idea.
