Graph water density and temperature
WebThe two graphs below show the variation in the density of liquid, gaseous and supercritical water with temperature and pressure. The density of liquid water increases with increasing pressure and decreases with increasing temperature. Seen opposite is the density of liquid and solid (that is the ices) water along the liquid-solid phase line. WebWater has its maximum density of 1g/cm 3 at 4 degrees Celsius. When the temperature changes from either greater or less than 4 degrees, the density will become less then 1 g/cm 3. Water has the maximum density of 1 g/cm 3 only when it is pure water. Other factors affect water's density such as whether it is tap or fresh water or salt water.

Figure 12.7. 3 shows a heating curve, a plot of temperature versus heating time, for a 75 g sample of water. The sample is initially ice at 1 atm and −23°C; as heat is added, the temperature of the ice increases linearly with time. The slope of the line depends on both the mass of the ice and the specific heat ( Cs) of ice ...
